‘Ocean Ring Yoga’ planned for International Day of Yoga 2023 on June 21


The International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2023 will literally touch many ports across the globe with the Government of Planning to upscale the observance into ‘Ocean Ring Yoga’.

Announcing this at the ‘Yoga Mahotsav’ held at the NCC Parade Ground in Hyderabad under the aegis of the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), Minister for AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal said the Ministry of AYUSH was working hand-in-hand with the Ministries of Defence, External Affairs and Ports, Shipping and Waterways to organise Yoga demonstrations at many ports and ships on the day.

The flight decks of INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya will stage Yoga demonstration as countries falling on or near the Prime Meridian line join the Yoga demonstrations. The Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard and Border Road Organisation will join hands for Yoga demonstration at borders, coasts and Islands to form a Yog Bharatmala. 

Yoga will also happen on North and South Pole regions. Himadri, the Indian research base in Svalbard, Arctic, and Bharati, the third Indian Research Base in Antarctica will also see Yoga demonstrations.

At panchayats and anganwadis, Ashas and ANMs will be involved in Yoga demonstrations. Health and wellness centres under the Ministries of Health and AYUSH, numbering more than 1.5 lakh, around 50,000 Amrit Sarovars would also join the Yoga demonstrations, he said.

The Yoga Mahotsav in Hyderabad, held to mark the countdown to Yoga Day, was attended by, among others, Telengana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minster of State for AYUSH Dr. Munjpara Mahendrabhai, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, and Kavita Garg, Joint Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH.
