Lunch is the most important meal of the day, here's why

According to Ayurveda, ingested food is not merely sustenance but a complex process involving digestion, absorption, and assimilation, overseen by the vital force known as "Agni." It is Agni that converts food into the form of energy, which is responsible for all the vital functions of our body.

It is therefore recommended to have your main meal at lunchtime when Agni is strongest. Breakfast, which is often heralded as the most important meal of the day, should ideally be a lighter meal to keep the Agni kindled till lunchtime. In the evening opt for a lighter meal that is easy to digest to support restful sleep.

Warm-cooked foods are easier to digest and provide nourishment without taxing the digestive system. Incorporate ayurvedic spices such as ginger, cumin, coriander, and turmeric in your meals. These spices help to kindle Agni and aid in digestion.

Avoid overeating. Sip warm water throughout the day to support hydration and digestion. Avoid ice-cold beverages as they can dampen Agni. Minimize distractions during eating and chew your food thoroughly. Adding Ayurvedic herbs such as Triphala,  or fennel will support healthy digestion.

By respecting the body's natural rhythms and the power of Agni, individuals can take significant strides towards achieving optimal digestion and well-being, thus improving the overall quality of life.
