Kama Ayurveda eyes global foray

Skincare and beauty brand Kama Ayurveda is all set to expand its operations into the global market with the company planning to launch its first store abroad in the UK next year.

“We plan to start with the UK as a test market. The standalone store will have an online sales platform. Thereafter, we will look to expand to other locations in Europe and the US,” Vivek Sahni, Co-founder and Chief Executive, was quoted as saying by the ‘Mint’.

Meanwhile, the Kama Ayurveda will launch 10 stores this fiscal to its existing 57. The new shops will come up at Thiruvananthapuram, Gwalior (opened last week), Bareilly, Ranchi, Siliguri, Jodhpur, and Goa (two).

In 2019, Puig, a Spanish fragrance maker known for brands such as Prada and Paco Rabanne, invested Rs 100 crore in the Kama for a minority stake.

The demand for organic herbs and natural ingredients-based skin and hair care products is only set to surge. Experts foresee a rise in global liking for the products, especially offering business scope for small players from India.

The business had fully recovered from the setback of the pandemic. The net sales in the financial year 2021-22 was Rs 135 crore, up 15 percent from the previous fiscal, Sahni added.
